You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. I have a 2 year old neutered male rabbit. He lives indoors in a room with his brother.
This morning he wasn't enthusiastic about breakfast. Ordinarily he would come running out when it's breakfast time.

So far I haven't seen him eat and I'm worried.
He has pooed - big and golden since I've been with him in the last 15 minutes and his litter tray from overnight has the regular amount of poo that he produces.

I've offered him herbs and he had a tiny nibble. I've stuck pieces of hay under his nose and he's chomped them, but not eaten them - so chomping them so that they're no longer in his way. I've tried the same with a willow stick with same result chomp at it so it's out of the way.

He's moving around as normal and he got into his tray to poo, so no loss of litter habits. He's lay down every now and then but it doesn't look like tummy pressing.

I haven't seen him drink or wee yet.

It doesn't seem right that he's less than enthusiastic about his hay and hasn't eaten anything yet.

There's nothing that I can really put my finger on and with such vague details I don't expect anyone to come up with anything, but here goes - any ideas RU'ers, what could be going on or am I just over-reacting?

Just to add he had an episode of gut stasis back in Feb during a heavy moult, but I haven't seen any 'furpoos' and as I said he is actually pooing.

Thanks
Just to add he's up to date with his vaccinations - myxi, VHD 1 and 2

I'd get him to a vet this morning.

How is his body language? Is he hunched up or lying down stretched out a lot?

Thanks, yes :thumb: I've got an appointment in 20 minutes x
Update - vet had a look at his teeth and can see a small spur on one of his back teeth. He's been given pain relief and gut motility meds.
10 minutes ago he started eating again - banana, fresh lavender and some hay :) produced poo too

Will be monitoring him closely, giving meds and then appointment to have his teeth done.

I was worried about the little guy

Hi Sarah

Sorry not to see this sooner.

I'm so glad you've got the little guy sorted so quickly. Well done you!

When will he be getting his teeth fixed?

Thanks Mightymax,
I was going to wait until he perks up this weekend and then ring on Monday to make an appointment asap. I didn't do it today as I want to talk to my usual rabbit savvy vet (it was locom today who seemed very good, but I'd rather talk to the regular vet who I trust and who has rabbits himself).

I've not had rabbits that have had to have teeth fixed - is it usually done under sedation only or a GA?

You're welcome :)

It's usually done under GA.

I have a specialist vet who will do this whilst the rabbit is conscious. This saves the anaesthetic risk and there is no recovery time. Not many vets can offer this service, but I have found it a godsend (and so have others who've contacted me privately on here) for where a rabbit wouldn't be able to have a full GA.

But I would say yes, a GA is probably the case for your rabbit. I agree, waiting until the savvy vet is on board :)
