Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

patches of fur loss on ear

hi - wondered if anyone has any ideas what's causing the two patches of fur loss on spartacus' ear - it's only on one ear and nowhere else on his body. He is fine - no scratching and he's eating and behaving normally. His wingbun has no patches of fur loss. Could it be overgrooming .. or hay mites ?

Don't want to stress him out with vet visit if can be avoided.

thanks !

Is is possible his wingbun tried to nip him? Could Sparticus have rubbed it against something repeatedly while he was chewing something like fencing? Could he have caught the fur on something?
In the past I had a few bunnies lose fur in patches. One had ringworm, a fungus; one had fur mites; and one eventually had two almost bald ears for no apparent reason.
If the skin under the area is not red or scaley, and the bunny is not scratching; you may want to monitor the situation closely.

Just reporting back (esp to bunny momma) - his fur grew back and has been no recurrence - so i think maybe just as you say something he's rubbed against or caught his ear on - for once no bunny drama .. :)
