  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Joey's not eating

I got him an appointment at 8.40. They were running behind so he didn't get seen until 9.30 and when the vet opened the box he'd died. He's doing a post mortem today and I can collect him at 5.30. I know Izzy should see him but is it a good idea if he's had a PM? he was a brilliant rabbit, I've gone straight to work so I don't think it'll really hit me until I get home later. Thank you for all your help xxx

Oh no  I'm so sorry. Thinking of you and sending hugs xx

Oh Alicia, I'm so sorry to see this news.
Thinking of you at this sad time. I know there aren't any words that could help ease the pain. ((((Hugs))))

Binky free, Joey  xxxx

I'm so very sorry :(

I didn't answer your question about Izzy seeing Joeys body - I would ask for your vets opinion under the circumstances. I hope shes ok xx

Thank you, the vet did the post mortem this afternoon and he said that Joey was in good condition and said his death was because of ileus. He gave me a leaflet, and I've read some of it and will finish it over the next few days but it sounds like stasis. I've got Joey back here now and I'm going to bury him tomorrow and put a little plant on top. It feels very strange, I've gone from having 3 animals outside to just one in 2 days, horribly quiet :(
