  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hello - Week 2 of Stasis (Long read sorry)

Being honest, I'm not sure. Will have to ask when the vet rings for her nightly update & will relay back.

Just happy he's put on weight for now, see how that goes over the coming days.

Yes, it's going in the right direction, and that's a good thing. It's always a worry when weight falls off a rabbit, as their immune system can go to pot as well!

Hey. With the bun bun.. Poops larger but a bit soft now! Ah trying to find equilibrium! He's made the odd teeth grind tonight. Couple over 30 mins, is that the stress of all this? He's calmed down my lap already with a bit of purring

Critical care and hay at the moment. The only thing that's been added has been fibreplex and subq fluids. Again, his bloodwork was fine. They were quite softy last night but tonight they were too soft

Vet believes it's from some slightly indigestible fiber, they will reduce fibreplex overnight and hopefully will settle. Ahhhh need equilibrium with his belly so much atm :-///

Recovery from a serious gut problem can take weeks and weeks. It actually took almost a year to get one of my Rabbit's very serious and chronic gut problem under control. There can be a few relapses along the way too.

What medication is Siddi on now ?

Thinking of you and sending vibes xx

They sound like they know what they are doing/ (vets)

Same Meds.. but they've added cisaprimide or however it's spelt along fibreplex as he was trying to gnaw everything. Problem is too much of it in a day and it becomes indigestible which is why he was pooping it out. Over night they said it's hardened up and now they're going to take down the dosage a bit. Apparently he's had a good graze of hay over night too, so small steps in the right direction perhaps

Yes, the cisipride can certainly make everything move very quickly, so-to-speak. Great that Siddi has eaten hay overnight, that should help get his poos firmed up and of a good size.

Here's hoping the long strand fibre helps with the firmness of poos etc.

Golden boulders is the aim for Siddi :D

Haha that is certainly the dream at the moment, he had a bit of a runny bum this morning but it's levelled out this evening and he's pooping better now. Also eating a bit and organising his cage. Hope those are good signs, he's done well... This is now day 20 and he's hanging in there

Organising my cage is something I do too, when I'm feeling well! :)

He's obviously a fighter :D

With him now, poops much better, slightly soft but some good sizes. He is still tooth grinding, can this be down to stress? Is it worth getting them to investigate? Xray & blood good so far and teeth check up was fine. Should note he's very active and also purring when being stroked.

To be fair, it's quite noticeable he seems to grind teeth more when he can hear a dog Barking down the other end of the vets... It must be stressing him out a bit. When it goes quiet, he goes back to grooming and chilling

Yes, perhaps it's stress - are the vets aware of this?

Hey folks,

Hope you're well. The boy has had a good day, good eating by himself while quite bright.

Sorry to trouble you though but siddi while he has calcium pee days had one yesterday, would you guys say this is normal or something to get checked out? Will speak to vet either way.. We have come so far so just want to make sure he stays on the right path to recovery! Thank you!

Tell the vets, but it't not something that would over concern me at the moment.

Frances Harcourt Brown:

Normal rabbit urine

The colour of normal rabbit urine is variable. It may be any shade of yellow, orange, red or brown. It often contains calcium carbonate sediment. Excreting surplus calcium into the urine is the rabbit's way of regulating the amount of calcium in the body so the presence of sediment is normal.
