  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ted had a trip to the vet on Friday

Nathan text me late morning to say Ted hadn't eaten breakfast and he was tummy pressing.

He brought Ted to work so I could get him the the vets, his tummy was really swollen and he was not eating anything

40 minutes later he had a mouthful of hay and was looking at me like I was the problem

ARGH why do they do this to us. 2nd time now.

I had him in the carrier on the back seat of the car so everytime I stopped in traffice I was lifting the blanket to check on him

I just wish I knew how it started.

He eats hay like there is no tomorrow, tiny amount of pellets & fresh forage daily :?

Good luck for you both at the vets xx

I hope he feels better now !! Rabbits certainly know how to test our stress levels x

I'm pleased that he's OK now. I guess it's possible that they sometimes get a bad tummy ache for no apparent reason and then it just goes as quickly as it came. I know this sometimes happens to me and I rarely know what has caused it :)

You seem to have good procedures in place within your household though to deal with this sort of thing. Well done :thumb:

Aboleth sometimes gets this for an hour or so because she's full of long lop fur (she does insist on being too nice to Lopsy ) but after a poo, it passes and she's back to normal/making up for lost eating time. If she refuses a dandelion flower, we know it's more serious!
