  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help please - sick rabbit, vet cannot resolve

I'm very sorry to say that Tom died last night. He was at home and his last moments whilst very difficult were with his beloved Toffee.
We actually thought he was improving yesterday. His appetite was up, his balance was terrible first thing but then got better but he stopped eating after lunchtime and then went downhill.
He was buried at home today. Our girls wrote him a thank you note for being our lovely rabbit and hoping that he has met his Mum and Dad and brothers and sisters in Heaven. We filled his grave with flowers and things that he liked to eat from the garden. It was beautiful and he looked peaceful. After we finished we made a cross for him out of sticks and a few moments later Toffee came across the garden a kissed the cross all on her own. Very moving.

We all miss him very much. I am heart broken. My friend has gone.
Thank you all for your advice and support over the last weeks. It was much appreciated.

What a lovely tribute to your sweet Tom. May you and your family find comfort in knowing that you made multiple efforts to help him to stay with you, your family and Toffee; while keeping his best interest as your priority. He could not have had a better family.
