Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Ask for positive vibes for Dash-U/D 04/22/2018

This morning Dash was back to dashing around like the Dash I know and getting his littermate, Evan, in the act too. It looks like I may have to keep him on a maintenance dosage of meds to prevent another recurrence.

I appreciate the vibes. I have not used baby gas drops in fifteen years and know you are a proponent of using them. If I wanted to try them for Dash if he gets more bloated again I would like to know how to dose them.. I saw the prior posts, but was unable to locate how many mg to give per kg of body weight. The infant gas drops I picked up at the store say 20mg on the front of the box, but on the side of the box it says each 0.3ml contains 20mg of simethicone. So it is not 20mg in l.0 cc, but in 0.3cc. I can do the math, but I need to know if you ever came across anything on how many mg to give per kg rather than giving a dropper full to start. Dash weighs about 0.7kg.

I'm afraid I can't help you with a specific dosage, as I have taken the information from a rabbit specialist in the U.S.A. and have passed that on.

I could not find a more precise dosage for such a small bunny. He is back to normal so I will ask the vet when I see him.

Glad to hear he's back to normal :)

I would be interested to hear what your vet says about Infacol.

My supermarket was out of his dandelion greens for several days. I tried another type of greens but Dash felt like he was getting gas after eating a small quantity so I was reluctant to give him more of the new greens. With Gemini going though a major moult and Dash just recovering from the impacted Cecum I was happy to finally find dandelions at another location where I purchased several pounds.

I found a location a couple days ago where I picked up several pounds of dandelions for free! Can't do that all year round though ...

Oh wow - you must have a big refrigerator :D
It is a regular sized refrigerator that has one item on top of another. I have to move several items to access the item I need. When I get back from the store, I feel like I am doing a 3D puzzle putting things away.

Yes I know what you mean. Sometimes I never seem to find things again in my fridge. Until it's too late and they have to come out and be thrown away. And I hate waste!

Last night I noticed Dash was not as active as usual. When I picked him up his tummy was getting bloated again. From the past I know how quickly he can deteriorate so I immediately put him back on his meds, Cisapride and Medicam. He also got a lot of dandelions and hay which he ate. His bloating went down quickly so I was glad I had meds on hand since he has this chronic issue. I was glad I did not have to give him any syringe feeding because, unlike Gemini, Dash will fight me in spite of my significant size advantage.

Thank goodness he has responded well to your prompt intervention. Time really can be of the essence with these 'chronic tummy trouble' Rabbits cant it. I hope that Dash remains in good form now xx

It's good you noticed so quickly and started him on treatment, I'm glad he responded so quickly:thumb:

It's so good you were on the ball to spot this T :)

It sounds like you've managed to avert disaster. Nethies can be such fighters when they want to. One of mine is on long term meds and it's soo hard!

Even though he was Dashing around quite quickly, his gut felt like it still had some excess matter, so I kept him on Cisapride for a few days. Thank you Jane, Zoobec and MM for your positive thoughts.

There's nothing like a vigilant owner to know how to deal with these rabbits x

Jane and MM,

Thank you for your vote of confidence. It is always hard to decide when to treat and when to wait.
