Weeing when lying down. Is something wrong?

Doughnut is due to see the specialist next week anyway but her litter habits have slipped recently. When she was ill she weed everywhere as was pushing down to toilet and urine was coming out but I don't think she's unwell. She wees on her fleece which I'm used to but she has weed on the wooden floor in different places. She's not straining. A moment ago she was lying fully stretched on her fleece and urine just sprayed out. She jumped up then lapped some of it up. Never seen her urinate lying down. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas

Is she dry underneath ? Is she drinking more than usual ? Has she ever had issues with bladder sludge ?

No she hasn't had issues with that and urine is clear. She drinks a lot anyway so no change. She's lying down and going to sleep now so don't want to grab her but she seems to be dry

Ooh poor Doughnut :(

When is she seeing the specialist? Is that visit connected with the weeing or something else?

It does sound like she may have a bladder infection. Has she had this before? They can always take a sample and do a quick test in the surgery, or else send a specimen away for a more thorough analysis

She's seeing mark for her six month vaccine. I've noticed she's just throat rubbed and made like her wretching sound so given her more zantac metacam and cisapride. Thankfully she's taken it from the syringe so isn't feeling too bad. Strange as she's toileting fine and that doesn't normally happen. She'll go into an episode and not toilet and be straining so hence why she's wet then once she's toiletted she's fine. She had one uti but that's it. Think the medicine has kicked in now as no noises and trying to go to sleep in between cleaning herself.
would her urine be darker if she had an infection as it's clear

Not necessarily, especially in a Rabbit that always drinks a lot.

She's seeing mark Friday but I'm off Tuesday as have knee injections starting Monday so can't walk around. I can always take her earlier but she does seem happy enough now but she's been toileting outside her litter tray and inside it for a couple of weeks but still flopping over on her side

I guess I may be getting some baytril then. The only medicine of about 8 that she's had that I struggle with her taking! She loved Septrin though. Is there any difference it those two. Think he prescribed one of those when I said she was tiddling in different places

They are different types of abx. Both can be effective for treating UTIs depending on the precise bacteria involved (a urinalysis would establish this).

Good that you already had that appointment booked.

Darker urine won't necessarily indicate any infection. I'm glad the meds you gave her have begun to work :)

Thanks Jane and Mightymax. She was wet last night and smelt of urine. Still unsure if it's a UTI or her digestion as when she was unwell she was wet all the time then. I'm giving her two lots of cisapride, zantac and metacam a day now and see how she goes. I didn't get the usual digging on the door to wake me up this morning and no excited waggy tail. She came over to take her medicine though and ate about half of her muesli which isn't great as that's normally all gone. She did seem dry and didn't smell and no urine anywhere overnight. I then went out and picked a handful of grass and dandelions and she scoffed that down, so I know she's not 100% as she always choses fresh stuff over muesli when she's under the weather. I'll see if she's wet when I get in tonight and will try and see Mark tomorrow if she is. I'm sure she's not in pain though as has still flopped out.

Sending you lots of vibes for Doughnut, bless her. Is it Spring I wonder? Hope she gets better soon.

Thanks. I have no idea what brings it on. Her gut slows down and she struggles to toilet and has acid reflux. I'm hoping she's dry again when I get home

I've got in and she's having one of her episodes. Had to grab her to get the medicine down. Half and an hour and it's calmed down. I went out and cut some more grass. She's nibbled a bit of that now. Doesn't want her muesli. She's wet and lots of soft stools smeared every where. Seeing mark tomorrow evening

You're welcome :)

Hope you can get to see Mark and he can test her urine x

Just seen your update - not good. Glad you're seeing Mark tomorrow. She sounds to be a bit stressed, though I wonder if the dandelions (and possibly grass) had anything to do with it?

I have known rabbits with impeccable litter habits have a lapse after eating a few dandelion leaves .....

She's only had the dandelion the last two days and only two leaves. I went and got it as she was off her muesli. Think it's all to do with her digestion again. I've added all medicines back in but the trouble is I'm out the house 11 hours and she seems to be in an episode by then. I have had near enough a year or no major incidents so guess I can't complain. If this is every day and a couple of times its hard to get it under control . Hopefully after a few days with full medicine it will make it disappear!
