  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Big problem-need help please-flies

MimzMum

Wise Old Thumper
As of ten this evening I have had to kill at least 8 large flies in my laundry room which is in a garage like area of my house. This room borders directly onto the bunny room. There is a door leading in and out of it that has gaps in the frame that could mean these flies could access the main house. Other than duct taping the heck out of this door I don't know how to keep the flies away from my rabbits.
Does anyone have a safe fly repellant or killer that I can use? Homemade or otherwise. It seems like everytime I get rid of one fly, five more take it's place. I have no idea how they're getting in...it seems to be at the one casement right next to the dryer. I am horrified and scared sick for Mimzy and Fiver. I keep things so clean here and still we have vermin. I blame the constant rain but we've never had all these flies and certainly not continuously like this. What can I do? :(

Are your Bunnies housed in enclosures ? If so putting netting (eg old net curtains) over the enclosures to stop the flies being able to access the Rabbit's immediate vicinity.

Citronella can deter flies.

Then there are fly strips and electronic fly zappers

Hope you manage to get rid of the blighters
