Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Iris - chest infection and more UD she's gone

No visible cecatrophs this morning. :thumb: Iris is still a bit subdued for Iris, but is brighter this morning. Wish I could say the same for me.

Well I'm just getting to bed myself at about 4:50 am after being up all day and dealing with sick bunnies, so I can completely feel your pain. :( I hope Iris will get better soon and that you can get some rest. xxxx

I'm glad that you are seeing some positive signs. Sorry things are taking their toll, it can't be easy when you have health worries too.

I'm surprised I didn't fall asleep at my till today after spending half the night nursing Darwin x

Thank you both.

Iris is ok in herself again, but still sneezing very badly. It's a good thing as I know there's the complication in her needing a dental. I think she's a little out of it as Arce just tried to hump her and all Iris did was run. Usually she just bosses Arce about if she does anything like that.

Iris is still much the same. As in still fairly active, still eating, still eating most (but not all) of her cecatrophs, but still sneezing badly. She's back at the vet a week today.

Bless her, is she producing any nasal discharge with the sneezes ?

So sorry to hear she is sneezing.

Would you bring the vet visit forward for that, or wait and see how she goes?

A little - it's not visible at a distance, but her nose is definitely damp if you touch her/ she noses up to you. The first vet she saw said this was normal.

I'm not bringing the appointment forward unless there's a change for the worse - I know abx can take time to work and she still has a week's course left. Hopefully it'll work, but if not, we'll move to the next thing.

Thanks, all, for your care for us.

Iris was snoring (at least I hope that's what the noise was!) a little earlier, with Arce being a good sis and flopped around her.

Could that be a sign of change? She's not done it before... and for better or for worse...

(I can't sleep...)

Sending lots of vibes for Iris! Ms B's also on sulfatrim for a respiratory infection, under a week in and no sign of improvement so far. Will keep an eye on your thread. Hoping that Irises snoring is a good sign. x

I hope she had a good day today :D

Did you manage to get some sleep? Are you OK?

Thank you both. I'm relieved that the poor girl is finally under treatment. It took too long - I just hope it has no long-lasting repercussions.

Iris is VERY good in herself. Currently jumping and diving over my bed in hopes of another treat. I'm so glad to see she's so much livelier. Zara, less so as Iris is interrupting her "mum+me" time - though the cat shouldn't complain; she spends all night with me.

However, she is still sneezing a lot. Sometimes it's mild compared to what it has been, but she also has very bad attacks a few times a day. (Just had one as I write. :( ) Her nose is still damp to the touch too.

She's also still leaving a couple of uneaten cecatrophs. No way near as many as it was at her worst. But it does still happen. I've only been giving her (and Arce) SS pellets, hay, and the occasional treat. Might change the treats over to Fibafirst, see if that helps.

Iris returns to the vets tomorrow - we're seeing the same one that put her on treatment thank goodness. She and Arce will be much less impressed.

As for me? Very tired, in pain, but mostly it's the same old. I see one of my specialists a week tomorrow. I'll just keep on truckin'. Thank you, MM. :)

oh- and yeah, I can sleep through her snores. She's still snoring every so often. It's the jumping on the bed that wakes me!

She seems quite well in herself, but the sneezing and damp nose would make me wonder if the abx is actually killing the infection. Sending lots more vibes to her, and all your poorly rabbits, together with lots of hugs for you. I hope her vet visit goes well tomorrow.

I absolutely agree with that. I didn't want her to go on sulfatrim tbqh, I wanted to use depocillin straight away as she's been like this since as long as I've had her - but the p@h vets just wouldn't listen until 2 weeks ago. But because the illness predates me and p@h are footing the bill, we have to go for the cheaper option first. I wouldn't have adopted her and Arce if they weren't older girls, but Iris had a look about her. And Arce had that look for OH and mum.

Meanwhile, poor Iris is stuck in the middle - with the addition of her ulcer, needing a dental, losing weight, but still not eating her cecatrophs, she's in a sorry state even if she is lively. She's more-or-less as she always has been - sick but mostly hiding it. :(

It's all just frustrating.

Selene and Elphie are as stable as they can be. I'm ok, really. Thank you, Omi. :)
