Could do with some advice for my Bunbuns - Update

Hi, been a while since I last posted. RL has been super stressful, it's unreal.

Got a quick question re Bunbuns.

The last two days, since cutting their claws on Sunday evening really, Bunbuns has been very weird. Of course she didn't want to know me on Sunday eve at first, then she was normal again. Monday when letting them out their overnight enclosure she didn't come out at first, then came out, eat a bit, but considering how much she loves her food picked a bit and then went to sleep. Didn't really get going much till the evening. When her and Fluffy were running around like crazy again and she ate tons of Veg, most of his, but that often happens as he's more interested in hay anyway. she also pooped normal and has been eating plenty of hay. She just slept a lot more.
yesterday she came straight out, ate her food and played a bit before going to sleep, so just like normal. all fine all day really. slightly more subdued than normal maybe, but to be honest, she goes through phases where she doesn't seem to play as much.
today again, she didn't really come out for any pellets. she didn't sleep on the top shelf of the enclosure but by the tunnels, she often sleeps there in the day when she wants to be left alone, but never in the night as her and Fluffy are always on their shelf together. it has fleece on it so it's softer. Though she likes the bare floor best.
so she came out, picked on a few pellets then went straight back to sleep. Fluffy came up, so she demanded some cuddles. I gave her a crunchy as I know she always loves that, didn't even look at it. Then went back in her pen to sleep. Got up again just now to forage, she just wants that by the looks of things, made her happy noise while eating it. So I thought I give her some dandelion root, again she didn't touch it, continued with her dried forage, then went back by the tunnels to sleep, where she is now.
There is a good chance she is running around today again, but I am starting to get a bit worried. She also left her Cecotropes twice, ones last night and one yesterday late afternoon. That normally never happens.

Could she just be really tired or so with the cold weather?

I'd go to the vet, but literally there is no way I could even attempt to go today, and my regular one isn't there anyway this week.

what do you guys think this could be? as I am getting a bit worried. I am happy she's drinking, eating hay and pooping as normal. just not eating much of all else and sleeping a lot more than normal. Usually at this time she'd still be playing and keep waking Fluffy up, instead she's sleeping. I really thought yesterday she really was more her normal self again, but now looks like she's again like she was Monday morning.

by the way, when I cuddle her she still does her teeth purring and like I said when she does eat she makes her happy noises and was doing a few binkies yesterday again, but today she just seems to want to sleep.

oh before I forget... she doesn't usually sleep with her eyes closed. but today I noticed her having them closed a few times while sleeping. then opening them up again after a few minutes.
could she just be over tired for some reason?

Sorry went on a bit.

hello stranger:wave: I'm not too clever with bunny health but it sounds like you're instincts are telling you something isn't quite right.

Other than her uneaten cecos is her poo of its usual quantity & quality? If it is I'd be tempted to monitor her closely & hang fire for the better vet & keep on offering the healthy foods she will eat. Joey & Boo were ill about a month ago - really lethargic & unenthusiastic about food. They had tiny poo though so no option but to rush to the vet.

I hope she feels more herself soon. Keep us posted please

Thanks. And hi :)
No her poo and pee is all normal. Same amount as normal. Same size poop. It's literally her lethargy that worries me. Of course she may run around like a nutter again tonight like she did Monday. But it just concerns me when she doesn't eat her nuggets or dandelion root. But she is eating hay and dried forage and all else is normal. Just seems more tired than normal. Fluffy on the other hand is exactly as he always is. He did snuggle up next to her for a bit. Then went on his chair to sleep. So right now it's normal that they both sleep. But she should have been much more awake this morning.
Mind you. My routine this week is all over the place. While I try to keep theirs the same as normal they do get to bed later at night some days and up earlier as I am only sleeping for like 4-5 hours the last few days. Maybe that may effect them?
Oh don't know. Bad Bunbuns. Have such a hectic and stressful day today as is. So that's just typical that I have more to worry about lol

By the way. What was it that your babies had. And are they all ok again?

Bunnies always have lousy timing. Maybe you could call your vets & ask advice first? I have a feeling she'd need diagnostics, bloods etc rather than just a physical exam. Hopefully someone will be along with word of wisdom. I only have vibes but am sending them her way. I just reread your post & you mention normal poo twice - sorry!

I hope things get better for you too

Yeah good thinking re the blood and stuff. I called them generally and they said they prefer to see her if it continues rather than give advice on the phone. I guess I see how she is in a bit when it's her normal getting lively time and see in the morning and just have to get her down there tomorrow if she's still the same. Just annoying the normal vet isn't in. Because she is specialised in bunnies while the others just do it as part of the job. So yeah lousy timing with that part too lol

Sorry I missed this. We never got to the bottom of what they had (confusing for 2 out of 3 bunnies to be ill). They just had gut motility drugs, metacam & recovery food. They are great now but it took about 10 days

So frustrating when you don't get to the bottom of it. But the fact they are ok again is the main thing. Wonder why it didn't effect Mouse. Mind you probably good for you that it didn't effect her. Three all ill at the same time would have been even worse for you.

Fred, Hi

This is a difficult one! She hasn't had any vaccinations in the last few weeks?

A vet would be able to take her temperature, and hopefully feel that her cecum was working OK, etc (all the abdominal stuff). So if you were still worried, although a specialist is the best idea, hopefully a regular vet (with a fair experience of rabbits?) could help.

Have you checked the obvious - eyes, ears no nasal discharge at all, front teeth? It's hard to know what's going on. Again, a vet should be able to have a look inside the mouth to at least check for ulceration etc ....

Sometimes these things are very simple once you've identified what it is. I hope she can keep going with the eating/drinking/pooing until you can see your vet next week. When is your appointment? (I would make one anyway, just in case .. you know these rabbits!)

hi :)
no she hasn't had any vaccinations lately, last one was in the summer.

So, little update. When I gave them their dinner, she didn't eat anything, veggies, my OH managed to give her some greens and she ate some, but didn't touch the rest, nor did Fluffy for that matter, but then he's not a good veggie eater, he prefers his hay.

She has gone to eat more hay and more dried forage, and begged for a Fenugreek crunchy, which she ate. she's now eating more hay and doing her business in the litterbox as we speak, but keeps getting tired and nearly falling asleep, or even falling asleep as her nose goes all still. but then on to eating more and grooming herself. she is very alert like when I stop typing she looks over and stuff or when there is any kind of noise.

Ears and eyes are fine. teeth I cant check, she wont let me pick her up and runs off when I try. so she is still as spirited in that way as always, but she's eating dry stuff, hay and nibbles on wood.

I haven't made an appointment yet, when I called the vet the nurse said to keep an eye on her for tonight and see how she is in the morning and take it from there. the fact she's eating stuff and doing her toilet seems to have them less concerned.

one thing I noticed when cutting her claws. she has very clear claws but one had like a dark line at the top of it. not the quick but just on top of it. she didn't seem bothered about it, but thought i'd mention it

ok, she just finished her business... well if you can call it that, pee and one cecos in the tray, nothing more. But then both of them seem to have a habit of pooping later in the day as he hasn't pooped yet, but will poop the tray up before his bedtime.
she just gone back to sleep, but had a good old groom first, she did look a bit brighter after she ate and drunk some water though.

oh the worry :( If she hasn't picked up by tomorrow I think I'd get her seen by a vet or you'll be venturing in to the unknowns of OOHs. Hopefully you'll have plenty of poo soon but the sleepiness does sound a potential worry - more so than refusing greens IMO

Yeah I'll see how she is in the morning. And take it from there.
It's actually fairly cold in that room. I sit in there with a big wooly jumper etc. But they have heat pads and she usually lays on them. So don't know if it could be heat related. But yeah in the summer she was similar and that room seemed a bit warmer than normal. But not much it's about 21 degrees c in that room in general.

Quick update. She hasn't moved much more all evening. When I just went into their room she didn't even bother looking up. She hasn't eaten much and while she's drinking she isn't moving for anything else.
Will have to be vet tomorrow I don't think I can wait for the normal vet, probably going to be a sleepless night for me.

By the way she is not hunched over or so, but completely stretched out while sleeping. And I did see her groom fluffy a few times, something she doesn't like doing since she's the boss in the house. lol

Good luck Fred. I had a feeling in my bones that you shouldn't wait until next week. Perhaps some gut motilities to get her eating properly again.
Perhaps it was the beginning of stasis?

Quick update, got like 4 hours sleep, was tossing and turning as I was worried, sure you all know that feeling. Got downstairs this morning and she looked a lot more alert. Yesterday i'd say she was a 2 out of 10, today when I got downstairs she definitely was more a 5/10. She ate some fresh stuff and even played with some toys. then she went back to sleep. 30 mins later had a little run through her tunnel to get some cardboard to play with and eat some of it. She's now in foraging box making her happy grunting noises. She just run towards me for a cuddle and pulled on my clothing etc, and is playing right now. I don't feel she is still 100%, not even close, so will still get her seen at. but for now it's feeling a lot better with her.

Hoping Bunbuns keeps on improving, but don't let her eat cardboard xx

took that off her, she then went to get some dried forage. she's been running around a bit more since and is now back at the foraging box. I normally wouldn't let her have as much of that stuff, well it's not that they get a lot, but normally I make sure both her and fluffy get equal parts, but since that's the only thing she enjoys eating right now I let her. she just had a little half binky on her way to the box. ate some... and I think is now getting ready to sleep again. or maybe not, I am sure I can hear her tossing stuff around in her tunnel lol
