Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Allergic Reaction to Vaccine?

Sandi-C

Young Bun
Good morning everyone.
Has anyone's rabbit had an allergic reaction to their vaccines?
My boy had a small raised lump on his nose which the vet said was a reaction to the Myx/VHD vaccine he had 2 weeks ago. Following his most recent vaccination for the RHD2 on Saturday he now has another lump. Vet says they will go within a couple of weeks. They don't seem to be bothering him but they look awful.
Just wondering was this a common thing?
Thanks

My rabbits sometimes develop lumps at vaccination sites, which disappear after 2/3 weeks. If they persist, then they need to go back. However, the fact it's on his nose sounds unusual to me - I don't know if there's anyone who knows better who can advise you.

Sorry this was missed yesterday! A few rabbits on the Forum have had a reaction to the Myxo/RHD1 vaccine. Maybe one of those members will see this now and reply.

With the Nobivac Myxo-RHD Vaccine a rare side effected is that the Rabbit develops mild symptoms of myxomatosis within 3 weeks of the vaccine being given

Is the second raised lump on his face again ? If so it is more likely to be a further reaction to the Nobivac given 2 weeks ago rather than the RHD2 Vaccine given on Saturday.

If, however, the second lump is at the site where the RHD2 Vaccine was given then it is a local reaction to that vaccine.

How is your boy now, any better?

It's not a common thing to get lumps on the face following a vaccination. Usually the reaction is actually at the vaccination site and can develop into a small abscess like lump.

Hope he's OK xx
