  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Really worried about Jims

May I ask why you wouldn't advise digestive biscuits Jane?
Yes they are both good hay eaters but there's not much in hay is there

I always feed porridge oats (dry) and sunflower seed kernels (the grey ones, not the ones with black and white stripey shells).

Alfalfa hay is really high in calcium and can contribute to a sludgy bladder. It's good for baby rabbits though :)

Mine liked the sugar free digestives too. They didn`t suffer from gut problems and lived to be 9 and 10. I don`t give Stakki anything naughty but he is a little pie, if he couldnt gain weight from pellets I'd be tempted by biscuits again.

We have been signed off!
They have both put on a great amount of weight in the last 3 weeks so very happy!
Cookie is back up to her original weigh of 2.07kg and Jimby is the same weight but original weight was 2.32kg so a little more to go and the vet would like them both to exceed their original weights but is extremely happy with their progress.
We also got the Filivac booster done today!
