Fall Leaves and Winter Diet?

Hi everyone! I have two questions. The first one is about fall leaves. The most common in our area I believe are black walnut, oak, ash, maple, apple, catalpa, weeping willow, birch, sycamore, hickory, and acorn. There are probably more but these are the ones I see. Are the dead leaves from these trees safe if my bunny Junebug eats one or a few? Of course we wouldn't feed them to her but I'm sure she will decide to eat one when she's out in her run. The most common in our backyard are oak, black walnut, maple, and ash and our neighbor has a catalpa so these are the ones I'm most concerned about.

I also have a question about a winter diet. She lives in our storage garage so she's protected from the wind and snow and we plan to insulate her cage. Do I need to feed her more in the winter? She currently gets unlimited timothy hay, a handful of pellets (I don't measure it but it's probably about one or two table spoons), and either some dandelion leaves and grass or a fruit or vegetable every night (it's usually one of the following: a small baby carrot, cauliflower or broccoli or the leaves, a few slices of bell pepper, a few slices of cucumber, or a slice of strawberry). Is this enough or does she need more?

Mine spend their time eating cherry Tree leaves in the fall. Personally I wouldn't worry if she eats a few of them, just pick up the nuts etc if you can to avoid her eating these.

In terms of her diet, I personally don't up their feed unless they're underweight but I know some owners do up their food in winter. I use the theory of in the wild they'd have used spring & autumn to increase food intake for winter with extra forage etc so don't up it in winter.

Hi Meg

Here's a good Rabbit Forum thread by a wonderful lady called thumps which may help you:

Thank you! I definitely think I should just feed her more plants but that's about it, and the leaves seem fine if she eats a few as well. Thank you again!
