  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

GI Stasis, Odds of survival

Just got a bit of a scare. He has this liquid-like pouch on his right leg/stomach area. Thought it could be subcutaneous emphysema, but I checked the vet's bill and it looks like they did a subcutaneous injection.

Subcutaneous fluids can lead to a pocket of fluid developing in the area you mention. It should disperse over the next 12-24 hours. How is Zero doing now ? Is he eating anything for himself ?

If they gave him some fluid under the skin (they probably did) then it's probably that :D Not to worry!

What is the odour killing stuff you mentioned?

MightyMax: Goodbye Odor We've pretty much used it since day 1 with our buns.

Jack's Jane: He's munching on apple leaves and hay now, just not in a large quantity (which is pretty normal for him, actually). My girlfriend brought up a great point yesterday--this is our only bunny who's ever had any antibiotics (for when he was humping our Holland Lops face and got bit a few months ago). I've ordered up some probiotics for him and hope that another incident can be prevented by restoring his gut flora.
