  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Tethra

Took Tethra back for his check up and he's finally been discharged :D He's still scabby :( The vet tried to poke at the largest scab, but it was hard and stuck fast. She reckons his eye is not 100%, but she feels nothing more would be gained by continuing the eye drops. Similarly she said that she's happy there's no active virus still present, so no point in continuing with the Penicillin. She did say to hang on to the bottle though in case stopping provokes a relapse.

She was very pleased to have a very good stroke of him and said that not many rabbits allow her to do this :D I told her that it was only because he was so scared

Anyway we have now booked the RHD2 vaccination for all three.

Excuse me, but Mr T would like it to be known that he is most definitely not a 'scabby' Rex !! He says now please will you let him get back to the important matter of eating, a Rex has to keep up the Breed Standards you know. :D

Oh Wow this is indeed good news!

I've been meaning to ask you for ages how things were going, but always struggle to find old threads

Well done everyone :D

Well there was never any appreciable difference in his eating capabilities and yes they all take this particular item of the Breed Standards very seriously  The main benefit he will receive now is that, when I open the shed door with food, he can make sure he can get to that food at the same time as the other two (and thus obviously obtain his fair share) instead of having to wait to see if he needs to hide in his box in his attempt to avoid being picked up for meds.

Thanks everyone for their support during Tethra's illness. Yes, Scrappy it does seem as though it's been a long slog :) It makes it all worth it though to finally get a good result.
