Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Horse Joint Supplements for Rabbits

Could you argue that because they have a similar diet that horse supplements could too be used for rabbits? Something the vet mentioned last week and has been on my mind since Chloe's arthritis diagnosis. I am interested to know your thoughts on this :)

I don't think it would matter if it were for horses, I think it would still be suitable for rabbits.

My argument with some of these supplements is that they contain shellfish!

harvey my dog is on glucosamine for joint issues and he is a different dog since having them. Would use the equivalent on any of my buns if they had problems too xx

it will be really interesting to see if FHB covers this at her pending lectures - maybe someone could ask for you ;)

I see no reason why they couldn't be used - bunnies often end up on loads of meds not licensed for rabbits.

Well wishes for Chloe x

I dont know about suppliments but i bring dengie hifi lite home from the stables for my buns and have done for years they love it a few times a week

I know someone on here had their rabbit on Nutraquin. I looked into it for an arthritic bunny of my own at the time, and found it contained shellfish and squid cartilage.
