Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Need Advice - Rabbit Corneal Ulcer not going away

Hi everyone,

Just an update...

I'm just using the remaining drops this week then getting him in for specialist ophthalmology next Monday morning.

K Fraser, Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

abingdonvet.co.uk/ophthalmology/

What do you think? Good choice? Has anyone used before? £180 consultation charge!

I have no experience of that specific Practice, but I wish Murphy well xx

Several months sounds a very long time to me, I've always been told that corneal tissue regenerates extremely quickly and you'd normally expect to see an ulcer resolve within a couple of weeks...and this has certainly been my experience in cases where there hasn't been an ongoing cause for it. The only times it's been problematic for me is if there has been another problem contributing to it which hasn't been sorted. Good luck x

This has been my experience too, having seen a good ophthalmologist.

Thinking of you and Murphy - a very worrying time xx

OK, have just come back from the ophthalmologist and so glad I did. Murphy is completed healed, he had his eye checked and the ulcer is fine. There is a small dent from the ulcer which will be permanent and small scarring which will get better in time but it has definitely healed. Mr Fraser was very good and knowledgeable plus only cost me £88.00.

The ophthalmologist said ulcers should take two weeks to heal so not exactly sure why pets at home kept bringing me back in for two months to keep buying more products but glad it has worked out in the end.

Thank you everyone for the advice and support.
