  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Boey in stasis

Oh no this reminds me of last weekend with Petra!! I'd syringe feed him every few hours. Also keep him hydrated. With her last weekend i was doing a few syringes of food and then a few of water alternately.

also i sat her on my knee and gave her tummy massages for half an hour - her stomach was rock hard. I think that helped her a bit.

Everything is crossed from here. I really hope he'll be ok.

Sorry to go OT, but has princess been ill? I missed it  Is she ok?

Been back in vets today, vet wanted to do a dental I insisted on blood tests which I'm glad I did as have shown a problem with his liver. The dental would probably have killed him... They don't know what's causing it so are referring him to a local specialist for an ultrasound and more tests. Vet thought it could be poison or an infection which we just can't understand how he'd be poisoned?! Anyway waiting from call from the other vets then will see. Poor boey need him to get better, he's my soul bunny

Oh no!

Is there anything at all that he may have eaten? Cut flowers or treated wood?

Hope the specialist comes up with some news.

Thank goodness you asked for tests. Poor little Boey & you. I'm rooting for a massive improvement. Hope the specialist is useful

I am sorry to hear this. The Liver function can be effected as a direct result of a Rabbit not eating and can be rectified by re-feeding.. So it *might* be that the Liver abnormalities are a result of the gut stasis as opposed to the cause of the gut stasis. Hopefully the Specialist can help. Sending lots more vibes xx

Just back from the specialist they are both staying in over night, she was pretty sure it was the liver causing the stasis not the stasis causing the liver. He's going to be treated for bacterial and viral infections and see how it goes, got 2 days to fix him she estimates before he will be too sick... The liver enzyme test should have had a reading of 60-75 but he was 997 the specialist was amazed it was the rabbit from the test as he was relatively perky all things considered she is going to run blood tests on tronny to see if it's something infectious

He's in the best possible place and I trust this vet so we are just hoping and praying he will pull through. It's my birthday on Monday so want him home then sprinting around the house and grooming my face ❤️

I really hope that he will respond to treatment. Did the Specialist Mention Hepatic Coccidiosis as a possibility ?

Many more well wishes for Boey - so pleased you are confident with the specialist, it makes all the difference

Good news vets much happier with him liver enzymes down to 600 his cecum is less solid and his second poos are back to normal and not biley like this morning. He's eating and weeing normally still on fluids and liver protector. She did X-ray last night and just showed impacted cecum, she thinks teeth are not problem so keeping them in again tonight but she's much less worried than yesterday

I am so pleased to see this update. Sending vibes for lots more improvement for Boey.
