Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baycox for cocci

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
Suspect I will be offered baycox for one of my buns tmw at vet appt (we have tried Septrin for 7 days to no real effect).

Has anyone used it?

I understand there used to be an issue about dosage?

and also read an old thread on here about giving it with something to prevent throat discomfort? anyone?

Sorry to hear about this Parsnipbun :(

I know someone who's had a recent big issue with cocci. She doesn't come online much, but I'm in touch with her privately. If you need any advice after your vet visit, PM me and I will put you in touch with her.

I have had a rummage and found the notes from the RWAF conference about the dosing (2009! The world may well have moved on since then...), they're in this thread here, post 91:http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/s...ary-Nottingham/page3&highlight=redrobe+baycox

Now you come to mention it, one of the babies I had here a couple of years ago had baycox on arrival and it was literally 'watered down' 50:50 with water I think, to try and help make it not so throat burny.

Good luck x

Can't help with dosage etc, but it is very effective against Cocci, I had a goat kid that had it, we thought we would lose her, but once on baycox she made a rapid recovery :thumb:

Sending lots of vibes xx

I've used it before for hepatic cocci. Not sure where my vet got the dosage from and I can't remember what she prescribed but mine didn't have any ill effects afterwards.
