  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Iris degenerative condition??

Boudicca

Warren Veteran
During a routine mini check, before his RHD2 jab yesterday, the vet spotted a peculiarity in Duds iris. It is a small patch that appears to have lost pigmentation, there is no trauma to the cornea and even more strange, it occurs on the lower part of his iris as well AND the same thing has happened both top and bottom on his other eye!! Has anyone seen this before or does anyone have any knowledge of degenerative iris conditions?! We tried to get a picture and you can sort of see where it has gone transparent! My vet will be showing it to a specialist ophthalmologist vet, but he tends to treat cats and dogs! Dudley is a black mini lop nearly 8yrs old.

Did the vet suggest there may be any E.C involvement?

I have had bunnies suffer from phacoclastic uveitis as a result of e.c. penetration.

......also, it's nice to see you again after so long !! Is WL still your Vet ? If so I am sure he'll be able to find out what Dud's eye issue is due to. Did the eye issue develop after Dud's 'scare' re his kidneys at the beginning of the Year ?

Ophthalmologists are amazing, and I find a visit worth their weight in gold when one of mine has an eye issue :D
