  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Warty lump 3x1cm

I've just found this lump on Jess:

Don't know how I've missed it until now but it's about 3cm by 1cm on the skin around her rump, that is her left back leg at the bottom of the image. She is 11 years 9 months old. She is on metacam after developing a limp of her right back leg, so I wondered whether this was caused by her leaning on the left so as not to lean on her right leg but even now she isn't lying on the left side and doesn't seem to lean on the left that much as far as I can remember. Going to call the vet this morning for advice.
Has anyone seen anything like it?

I imagine the vet will suggest sticking a needle in it and sending it off for testing. That will tell you what it is and whether it's something you can ignore or needs removing. They can get fatty lumps, tumours (which can be beign) and abscesses but you can't really tell just looking.

Thanks for your messages. It ended up bursting partly and the vet has removed it today, it was an abscess, never seen one like it! She is doing really well now, can't believe it as I was sure she was going to die as she is pretty frail but she keeps bouncing back :)
She has been put on sulfatrim for ten days, already on metacam, got some antiseptic wash for her eye as her tear ducts aren't great. It sounds like she's falling to bits but she is quite happy eating, drinking, cleaning herself and cage mate, investigating and being her usual curious self. I'm so happy she is okay :)
