Edmondo
15th March 2012 - 6th May 2016
Edmondo was born here on the 15th March 2012, he was a surprise baby from Daisy a guinea pig we had got in January along with her half sister Ruby. Daisy was a young mum when she had Edmondo, she was only 3 months old. Edmondo was unfortunately inbred as Daisy had got pregnant by her brother after being left in for 4 weeks as opposed to 3 weeks.
This tribute is going to be more of a photo tribute than words, I am struggling here. The photos should have some kind of reflection of his 4 years in this world. He was healthy up until Thursday when he showed symptoms of being unwell, he was checked over and was seemingly fine. He was given a pain relief injection to see how he responded. Friday morning around 5:30am he was clearly very ill. He was gagging, frothing at the mouth and nose, still refusing to eat. We took him to the OOH vets and he had an irregular heart rhythm which indicated a heart problem. We were told his prognosis wasn't good and he wouldn't likely live more than a few days/weeks. However we could try treatment or pts. I decided that we would try treatment and see how he responded over the day (he was inpatient at the vets). He was also scanned and it showed he had an enlarged heart with fluid around it, so he was in the stages of heart failure.
As Edmondo was not eating and he had a very poor prognosis we felt it would be in his best interests to have him helped along to his forever sleep. It was a very hard decision but it was the right one for him. This all happened so suddenly, i am still in shock.
Edmondo was 5 days old here:
As Edmondo was the only baby and a boy, we had to get him company. I managed to get Jasper the brother to my girls and the father to Edmondo. They were bonded when he was separated at 3 weeks old.
Here they are when he was fairly young
He grew into a handsome young boy!
