Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Bunny snotty nose - advice needed

vegiroo

Young Bun
Hello,
I was wondering whether anyone can help with advice for my bunny Rosa who has had a snotty nose since before Christmas. My vet seems to have exhausted all possibilities.
Rosa's been on a course of antibiotics. The snotty nose cleared up, but it came back when the antibiotics stopped. We then tried a course of steroids and that was the same. We had an x-ray but nothing came up. We then tried 28 days of injections (not sure what). It cleared up a little bit but not much. The snotty nose has come back again.
Rosa seems absolutely fine otherwise, bobbing about and eating well. Our other bunny Lily seems healthy as well.
The vet has suggested that we wait until the weather gets milder and maybe it will clear up then. The only other option he had was to get her nose flushed out by a specialist, as he doesn't have the equipment to do this.
Has anyone come across this? I don't want to put her through any unnecessary discomfort as she's fine otherwise, but I don't want to leave her without treatment either. Does anyone know of any rabbit specialists in north Manchester/Merseyside/south Lancashire?
Thanks very much for reading.

there is alot to try yet so don't worry. i know this because both my rabbits had/have respiratory conditions and my chronic snuffle bunny matt went through alot before we found something to keep him stable.

the specialist vet we use is ashleigh vets in whalley range manchester. we have to travel from north manchester to south but it's more than worth it. we mainly see aidan raftery and he is excellent. i would very highly recommend him, especially for this type of issue :)

Thank you, hopefully we can sort something to help Rosa too. I hope Matt is doing well :)

i hope so too. aidan really worked hard with matt and even though it took around eighteen months to find a routine that worked for him, we got there in the end. hopefully it won't take that long for you. with our other rabbit bisc, it took more like three months to get stable and has been well maintained since.

sadly matt is no longer with us (his passing was not to do with his respiratory problems) but i have no doubt that without aidan, he would have passed long before he actually did. so i couldn't recommend him highly enough just for that one thing alone. ashleigh vets have two other exotics vets there aswell. and there are others around aswell so if you needed somewhere closer then i'm sure others could advise. i know the rabbit specialist molly varga works at different clinics over the north west at the moment and she is also meant to be excellent.

best of luck x

Thank you so much. So sorry about Matt. It sounds like you have found a great vet there. It's quite a long way from us. I might see whether I can find somewhere closer first, maybe one of Molly Varga's clinics. It's great to hear we might be able to get it under control. I've been very worried. Thank you again for your help xx
