  • Please Note - Medical Advice

    Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

    You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

    We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

    Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cheyenne is ill again - UPDATE - all okay

:cry::cry::cry:

I think her old respiratory problem is back - but hopefully we've caught it in time. She has seemed a bit off colour to me this weekend - still eating with enthusiasm and drinking and is lively but she is also lying down a lot and breathing quickly - and something is just not quite right about her. I thought it might be me at first - being over-anxious after she was so ill last year, but my hubby has just rung me to say he's just been in to see her and he thinks there is something off as well.

So pleased he is off work today - and thankfully, the vets have just had a cancellation so he's taking her in at 4.30pm. Fingers crossed she just needs some antibiotics and can come home with those - she doesn't do well when staying over in the vets.

I am sorry to hear this :cry: I hope she'll be feeling a lot better soon xx

Poor Cheyenne :( I hope she'll get on OK at the vets and be able to come with with some antibiotics.

Sorry for the delayed reply!!!

The vet listened to her lungs - they're fine but there is scarring in her left lung from her problems last year but not enough to cause problems. No temperature, no gut problems, teeth absolutely fine - she presented as a normal healthy rabbit!

We were given some metacam to give her for a couple of days - and she does seem much more her normal self this morning so possibly some sort of underlying pain there. We are to take her back on Thursday if she hasn't shown any signs of improvement for blood tests.

So I think we were just over-anxious parents but I don't care really - I am just relieved that she's been seen by the vets and there's nothing outwardly wrong. But we are keeping a beady eye on her.

She is such a darling at taking meds - metacam is obviously not so nasty but she doesn't put up a fight and doesn't struggle - and is very patient with mummys fumbling around trying to find her mouth :lol: I do love this little girl so much.:love:
