  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Two Buns Admitted :(

Captain Helen

Wise Old Thumper
My bun Barley stopped eating last Saturday and has been on meds all week. She'd improved and was back to normal yesterday but has gone downhill today. She's in a lot of pain and is now anaemic. She's on a drip and will get whatever else she needs, but the vet thinks she's very poorly.

One of the rescue buns, Marley, was neutered last week and seemed to be doing OK the following day, but stopped eating the day after that. He's been on meds all week and was also improving, but has stopped eating again today. He's also on a drip, but the vet is hopeful for him.

No idea if it's a coincidence or connected. The vet doesn't know what's going on with either of them

Sending loads of vibes for Barley and Marley. I hope they both show signs of improvement very soon.

Oh Helen I'm sorry to see this :( sending healing vibes and prayers your way for both wee bunnies. I hope they will improve soon. xxxxx

that's tough :( especially having 2 poorly bunnies & not knowing what's wrong. I hope you get a diagnosis & more importantly they both make a full recovery real soon xx

I am sending you and your bunnies some positive thoughts. It seems I have more experience than I would like to have with bunnies that stop eating. Most of the time neither me or my vet knew exactly why they stopped eating even though prompt supportive care, hydration, pain management, and hand feeding all helped the majority of them recover fully. At one point I even had half my bunnies on a different brand of food and hay to eliminate that as a factor.

The vet just called to say Barley has just had a stroke  They're continuing treatment for now, but I don't think they can save her

I'm so sorry to read this Helen. :(

I hope that Barley can recover. Sending lots and lots of vibes for both bunnies. xx
