Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ted is having dental tomorrow morning

Just asking for some vibes for Ted, he is getting much needed dental tomorrow with his lovely vets Pacco and Kate. Pacco is a furry special vet and Kate knows Ted well from his previous ordeal a few months back and cares for him a lot, he couldn't be in better hands.

He is a good weight now but his teeth have grown long very quickly. His gums aren't affected so that's good. He is getting sedated so really hoping he will be okay. He has had some critical care food today and a wee bit pineapple juice (his favourite).

Really hoping he will be okay. But feeling anxious too.

Sending loads of vibes for Ted. I hope the procedure goes well and he makes a speedy recovery.

Sounds like Ted is in the best possible hands and he'll be all comfy in his mouth ready for any Christmas treats that come his way

Sending lots of vibes too

Pacco said that he strongly feels that Ted's teeth won't realign so he wants to take them out. He doesn't want to put Teddy through two anesthetics which he thinks will likely be the case. So Ted is having them taken out the two front ones. Hopefully he will get used to this 😔

It is far better for the Incisors to be removed rather than to keep having to burr them down. Rabbits can adapt really well without Incisors. They may need their Veg cut up/grated. Pelleted feed is generally not a problem, but with hay it's a case of trial and error to find the best type for the individual Rabbit to manage. Some cope better with a chaff (short cut hay types) and dried grass such as Readigrass.

Some Incisorless Rabbits may need help with grooming, especially during a moult. Occasionally some may not be as efficient at keeping their bum clean. Although IME it is more likely the Rabbits who wont eat as much hay as they used to who can get a mucky bum. I think it's less to do with not being able to eat their cecotrophs because they have no Incisors but more that the lack of hay and (probably) too many pellets is causing them not to eat all of their cecotrophs.

I'd make sure that Ted is prescribed a few days of pain relief as his mouth will be sore at first.

Hope Ted gets on ok, I'm sure he'll adjust. My two were "done" yesterday, so getting lots of T.L.C.today, and lots of yummy herbs.
