Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mucky Eye

Den

Mama Doe
Nancy had a tear duct flush 11 days ago. She had drops for a week afterwards. Yesterday her eye had the white discharge again this was after just 2 days without drops.

We have a vets appointment tomorrow afternoon. My regular vet is on holiday so am seeing one of the others at the practice. Any guidance with what I should be asking and what the vet should be looking for would be much appreciated as I'm now quite worried about possible underlying causes

She had a small spur on one of her teeth filed down when she had the tear duct flush as she had to be sedated. I am going to ask if they can try to do a conscious flush this time as I hate the thought of her having to have another anaesthetic so soon after the last one.

Oh no, poor Nancy :(

Scrappy has had a weepy eye a few times now (tooth root issues) and this is likely to keep recurring. When it flares up, my vet usually has a good look for any white discharge and if there is any present the usual procedure now is a conscious tear duct flush, eye drops for 2 weeks plus 2 weeks of Duphapen. So the only thing I can think of is that maybe Nancy needed a longer course for the eye drops and maybe some antibiotics to completely get rid of the infection?

Hope Nancy is better soon
