Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Antibiotics for urinary infection

Hugo's There

Wise Old Thumper
Please could you name me some antibiotics that you have had success with for a bladder infection.

We have always had success with septrin in the past so never used anything else

Thanks

When I had my Inca she had Ceporex Injections for her urinary infections. It seemed to work for her.

I also have her the Vetcare Plus Urinary Tract food, which she loved.

Always and without fail the much maligned Baytril !!

I am assuming urinalysis has been done, the sample taken via Cystocentesis (more reliable than a freeflow sample) ?

Thanks for replies.

We haven't done cystocentesis yet as the action plan was to try septrin for two weeks and if no improvement then do one. He improved so we continued for the recommended month long course.
At the end of the month we tested for blood and protein which was still present but much reduced. So we decided to continue with septrin for two more weeks.

However he is now passing blood again. The vet hasn't seen him yet we have a double appointment this afternoon but I was just wondering what options I could discuss with her :)

When my late bridge bun Cleo had a urinary infection she was given baytril, cleared it up no problem, getting it in her was the problem!Wrapped up in a towel and squirted in her mouth sideways, much licking and bleurging by her,she always got a treat after to help the nasty taste go away.
