Rabbits in hot weather?

Vickymnx

New Kit
Hi,
I have recently rehomed two minilops and have a question about their health in the impending hot weather we have in Kent for the next weeks and later in the summer.
I am in the process of adjoining a run to buns hutch, but for the time being have been moving them to the grass each day to use the run on there. Tomorrow it's going to be 27degrees, and Wednesday 30+ degrees.
Are rabbits best to go in their run (there is shade) or stay in the hutch during peak hot times of the day?
Many thanks,
Victoria

I thought I would also add that I give buns frozen water bottles to nest against and keep their drinking water cool. They have a heat reflector sheet in the hutch roof also.
I am particularly concerned about Clyde who is a rew as hear they are not as heat tolerant?
(Also apologies I think I should have posted thread in the housing section ;/)

I think that would depend on which part of the garden they would be coolest in. The run would need to be in the shade and also have a hide or two, along with lots of drinking water and hay if the grass isn't long. I'd put them where they will be coolest during the hottest part of the day, as long as they have adequate hiding spots and food/water.

I agree with this.

There are some useful tips here :

Thanks for your comments and the link!
May all people enjoy the sun and buns stay cool!

Yay indeed! Frozen bottles (or ice pods) are very useful, and lots and lots of shade. Sometimes grass (particularly if it's a bit long) can be quite cooling if it's been in shade since the beginning of the day.

The thought of all those poor rabbits and guinea pigs out there who are in tiny hutches in this heat :(

Really worries me although I know I can't do a thing about it.
