Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Metacam Dog Syringe conversion

Does anyone know how many ml there are in each kg of the dog syringe for metacam?
I have the dosage in ml but the syringe in the packet only has dog kgs labelled on it and a normal syringe won't fit the bottle :(
So I need to know how many dog kgs equal one ml of liquid

10kg

Have you got an empty little bottle and a normal syringe? Squirt some of the metacam into an empty bottle then draw it up :)

I'm sure the last bottle I had I was told to give the 15kg dose to a 2.5kg rabbit (I know rabbits get more than dogs) but the current instructions are about 0.6ml for a 2.1kg rabbit. That's quite a difference from two different vets at the same practice :O

We give 6kg dog dose per 1kg bunny. Which is 0.4ml

ETA I make 10kg dog dose 0.7ml :?

Oh well, I bought a little medicine bottle from the pharmacy and decanted the whole bottle into that so I could use a normal syringe so I guess it doesn't matter much anymore :)

Having the same issue too. Estimated by transferring from ml syringe (fading numbers) to the Metacam one. Binci is prescribed 1.62ml twice a day (spurious accuracy warning!) as she’s just over 4kg. From all the above 4kg = 1.6ml = 24 dog kg before dribbles! Unlike our guinea pigs, who love the stuff, Binky is a reluctant but thankfully not too resistant patient (atthritis).
