  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is this a pure mini lop?

This is Billy, a 9 week old mini lop which we recently brought from a breeder.

However, we are concerned that he is not a pure mini lop due to the ears having not dropped. I know sometimes genetics can be a cause, but we are just concerned seeing as the mother's ears had dropped.

Although the breeder insists that he is 100% mini lop, we would just like some clarification.

I think it can take a whole for ears to find their natural place! Although not pure breeds my girls were about 16 weeks or so when theirs became 'lop' and 'helicopter lop' respectively!

Why would it concern you by the way if he wasn't a pure mini lop?

I agree that baby bunny ears can take a while to lop.

But we can't see the picture, you need to upload it to a photo hosting site and copy and paste the IMG code that gives you for us to be able to see it. Or there is a way of linking to fb but I don't know that one!

There are some instructions here for how to upload photos.http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/s...tos-directly-from-facebook-or-another-website  Also a thread here for how to upload from fb if that helps. http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?136183-Tutorial-How-to-Post-Photos

Going back to the original question, it can take some time for the ears to lop and, like marleysworld said, a lot depends on the shape of the crown and where abouts the ears sit. Alfie (in my siggy) is a pure bred mini lop and one of his ears took forever to lop and, even now, still has a mind of its own  and he can wear it in whatever position he chooses.
