Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
He's home I went to pick him up yesterday late morning but haven't been able to get onto the forum to update until now. He came home with a bandage on his leg from where the drip was and has been shaved in other places for various blood tests they did. He seemed a little bit worse for wear and was limping so I went back to the vets to pick up some metacam for him. He seems totally fine today, like nothing happened! He's eating and toilet-ing normally and has been binkying around as usual The vet wants me to take him for a check up on Tuesday so I will discuss his neutering then. They have been incredible throughout this whole ordeal so I am sure they will provide good advice
ETA; thank you everyone for all the vibes/nose rubs/advice, it really has been great support for me throughout. I was a blubbering wreck on Friday!

So pleased to hear that Winston has made a good recovery
Thank so much for coming on here to do an update :thumb: How wonderful to have a good vet on board.
I hope all continues to go well for him, and that you can now relax a bit
Thank you! I'm now a bit paranoid every time he does a bunny flop!
The official diagnosis was just gut stasis with no known cause. Is it normal to not know the cause?! The vet nurse who handed him back to me said it can happen with rabbits, I will check with the vet at his check up tomorrow too but I just wondered what you thought?

Sometimes there will be a case whereby we cannot identify a primary cause. A one off case of gut stasis of 'unknown' cause' is not so much of an issue as it would be if it kept happening. Only then would I want to request more diagnostics.
Hopefully Winston will remain well from now on
Yes it's very normal not to know the cause! Vets tear their hair out trying to find out and often don't succeed despite many diagnostics.
So glad all is well - hope he stays well
Good to hear he's doing well. His fellow countrymen (ie my 3 Dutch buns!) and Rosie send their love
good news! Well done Winston - keep binkying :thumb:
Thank you
He had his check up today. The vet was very pleased and has cleared him for his neutering in a couple of weeks! He's back to his normal self now albeit a little more shaved than usual!
Aaawwww splendid!!
Brilliant!! Well done Winston
