  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

how much does your bunnies drink

Rita

my little girl drinks a lot of water and pee's plenty.
my boy on the other hand hardly drinks, he has a water bottle and a bowl.
he only does one or two pee's a day. i have started to soak all his herbs in a bowl of water before he gets it, tying to encourage him to have more water.
he eat's a lot of hay, always eats his chudley's royale.
do you think this is ok, or should i be worried. he's now 14 weeks old.

Most healthy bunnies don't drink very much in my experience. The rabbits I have bred myself drink very little but live to good ages so I am always more worried if a rabbit drinks a lot. Your rabbits will know how much fluid they need so really I think it's the one that drinks ythe most you need to keep an eye on.

The average water intake is 50ml-100ml/kg/day. Rabbits who eat a lot of Veg/grass tend to drink less than those who do not. Veg/Grass providing some water. Your Buck may actually wee more than you think if he has started spraying. Things to look out for are if his wee becomes thick and gritty and/or if his fecal pellets are very small and very dry. Either symptom might indicate that he is not drinking enough

thank you both, i was getting worried about him. but his poo is normal and he eats fine.
i have to book him in for neutering soon, so i want to make sure he is in the best health possible for the big day, which i am dreading... bless him.
I can't wait for them to go back together, and that will be another worry.
