  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lewis is in for a Dental - U/d Had Incisors Out 31.07.155

Lewis has a malaligned jaw, was born with it, and normally he just needs a little bit off his incisors. Yesterday when I took him in we saw a new Vet who didin't feel happy about clipping his teeth so I had to book him in for a dental under GA. I don't know if they will remove his incisors or not. I wasn't too keen on the way the new Vet handled Lewis, usually they are very gentle but this one seemed a bit clumsy to me. Hope he isn't the one doing the surgery!

Vet has just 'phoned, they decided to just burr his front teeth so he hasn't had a GA and his back teeth are ok. I am so pleased for him.

If this were me I would definitely want to know whether the incisors were coming out or not!

Rabbits don't need a GA for their incisors to be trimmed, but I don't like the procedure and have always had my rabbits incisors removed if that's the case.

You don't seem too sure about this new vet ... Is it wise to let him loose on your rabbit?? :)

Hope he will feel more comfortable now xx

Lewis had his incisors out on Friday. He bled quite a lot apparently and looked so sorry for himself when I picked him up. Anyway I am pleased to say he is eating fine and looking more like his usual self. There were only 3 to take out as one wasn't there and the gum had healed over so hopefully it won't start growing again. Now I can think about bonding him with somebun.

Glad to hear he's doing well :D

Awww glad Lewis is doing well. :thumb: My Scooby has no incisors and he now eats faster than anybun. I've never seen a rabbit hoover up readigrass as fast as he does.
