Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Glaucoma and Beta Blockers

Hi folks

Could I ask your help to see if anyone has any experience of Beta blockers for Glaucoma in bunnies - my bunny has had this condition for some time now and his IOP can vary considerably - last check was near normal - today levels have spiked to above 30 IOP for both eyes - so far there is no ulceration to either eye - he has been on Azopt for more than 12 months but it has been suggested to try a Beta Blocker along side but I am worried about the side effects of this as my bunny is an elder guy and has had statis history.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks bunny folks

I have never had a Rabbit prescribed Beta blockers, a concern I would have is the potential for them to effect the Rabbit's heart rate :?

Thanks Jane, have been reading some internet reportage on opthalmic Beta blockers and I will chat to his specialist a bit more on next visit if he levels remain high but not really liking the possible side effects at the moment.

I would be interested to hear what the specialist says. It's always good to learn something new xx

I wish you good luck with this :thumb:

Santa has in the past had some extremely helpful information for eye problems - it might be worth PM-ing her?
