Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Kidney Failure?

Hi everyone, so an update on Sid.....

They did test the urine yesterday and it was on the very low level of concentration.

Sid was bathed and clipped today and they put some cream on him. He also had some bloods taken - I should have the results of this by Friday.

My vet said they can't prescribe any pain relief at present as they don't want to risk further damage to his kidneys.

He's home now with Daisy and I have managed to set up a dog crate in our conservatory (which is heated) to keep him warm - hopefully he'll use less energy trying to keep himself warm!

My vet has said we will wait until the results of the bloods come back before starting him on panacur... just in case it is something else.

Yes, his teeth were checked and they are in very good condition.

Please keep everything crossed (including paws!) that he recovers from this, I don't wanna lose him  x

Aawww good update so far, so really hope for good test results and that his kidneys are holding up.
Clearly a well-loved little fella :D

Thank you bunnymomma and MightMax :D

He's not moving about very much bless him. I have just popped home from work to check on him and he's eating a very small amount. His wifey (Daisy) isn't too happy about being indoors but at least they are cosy and warm! It's freezing outside!!! x

I didn't spot this before. Sorry to hear about the lovely Sid. Really hope you get some answers from the blood testing.

I'm sure you already know, but the EC test only shows exposure, and Sid has already had it, so it wouldn't tell you anything conclusive. I guess the vet is wanting to check for kidney failure first.

Will be thinking of you x

Thanks Sarah.
The last time Sid was ill, they weren't sure if it definitely was EC or not. Apparently the blood tests (the more extensive and expensive) one's can detect EC.
Hopefully I will get the results tomorrow xx

Great news!!!

Sidney's blood test are back and they are functioning fine! :D
His immunoglobulins were quite high which indicates an infection. So we are continuing to treat him with baytril for 2 weeks, plus he has some metacam now for pain relief. He has also put some more weight on and is eating more! He seems much better in himself.

Thank you all for your vibes - they worked!!! :D xx

Wow I bet your mind is at rest now!!

This is great news .. from strength to strength now Sidney

I'll bet it helped him to be kept in a warmer area while he is being treated for the infection. He is so cute, I wish he was mine!

Excellent news. I was always hoping it was just an infection which could easily be treated. You must be so relieved x
