  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dental pain.

Lola has a habit of digging when in pain, usually this is dental pain caused by small spurs on her molars. She went 1.5 years without a dental but the start of Jan 15 she needed a dental, then again 2 weeks later and now she is digging again its 2 weeks since her last dental.

Other than the obvious (spurs) could there be something else that may be causing pain? Shes eating hay, output is fine but her being in discomfort is awful to watch and the metacam barely helps. I'll be making an appointment for the vets but would be interested to know if anyone could think of something else that may be causing such intense pain so shortly after a dental :(

Has she had a full MOT and an xray to see what is happening about her tooth roots? There may be more going on than just the spurs, and 2 weeks isn't very long if she is eating hay, etc. Maybe also your vet ask about the max dose of metacam she could have and see if that makes a difference - or another form of pain relief.
