I still cannot believe I am writing this post.
I haven't yet come to accept the events of yesterday and both Jay and I are in bits, we're broken, numb and empty inside.
Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our gorgeous girl Gracie Goose, she was the kindest, happiest and most excitable bunny that we ever had the pleasure of meeting. I am so thankful to Camp Nibble for letting us bring Gracie into our little family, she brought us so much joy and love and now we're just lost.
Gracie was an ex lab rabbit, she had a very poor start to life, she didn't deserve this .
We found Gracie yesterday morning in early paralysis, both back legs had completely given up on her, she was sat on her back. We immediately went to the vets and upon arriving Gracie's front legs had also given up. The vet checked our little lady over, injected pain relief, gut stimulant and antibiotic. At this point Gracie was still alert and attempting to move, her body just wouldn't respond, she was in so much pain that the tooth grinding was agonising. The journey back her tooth grinding subsided; suggesting that the pain relief was helping, I was hopeful.
We got back and put her on the rug to find her whole body by this point had completely gone, she could no longer hold up her head and her eyes were rolling. I held my baby and at one point I thought she was leaving us. Jay and I knew what was coming, it was the hardest thing we have ever had to do, saying goodbye was agony; but it was the kindest thing to do.
We returned to the vets within 2 hours of initially leaving, the vet rechecked Gracie; turning off the lights and checking with a light, Gracie's eyes were no longer responding. She was a shell at this point, just breathing. Her body and mind were leaving us . Only a very small dosage of the euthansia injection was required, Gracie was already so far gone.
Gracie had suffered from some form of nerve trauma, the vet believed the possible cause to be a tumour on the spine. We were never sure on Gracie's exact age, after all she was a lab rabbit, then rescue, we believe she would be around 5 in November, however she may well have been older.
We're absolutely completely and utterly devastated. We never anticipated we would be saying goodbye and burying our beautiful Gracie Goose yesterday. It happened so fast, with no warning and we're just shattered by it all.
Who's going to chase me and be my little shadow on the way to the kitchen now? Who's going to ring her little bell on a morning because she's not getting breakfast quick enough? Who's going to do back flips, bunny 500 and make as much noise as possible to annoy the neighbours.
Acceptance that she's gone is so hard, I keep expecting to go upstairs and she'll be there, I want it to be a bad dream.
Binky free our sweet girl, enjoy yourself at Rainbow Bridge. I'm so sorry we had to say goodbye xxx
