are the leaves smooth or bristly? (they look smooth in photo)

My first thought was hedge mustard or a variation, or a brassica/rape seed plant

this is a very good site for identification

Smooth leaves. It's about 2.5 ft

if you don't have rape seed farms near you then I'd say hedge mustard..not sure if buns can eat it though.

I've seen loads of this in the hedgerows but not known what it is or if it's safe.

I found it on an organic veg place where I forage. We certainly do have oil seed rape fields, but quite a distance away. Think I'll just dispose of it - plenty of other stuff I know is safe.
