Anyone identify this tree?

Close up showing the little brown pine cone type things on it!


Took these a couple of weeks back and the trees have now also sprouted long brown dangly caterpillar type things! The leaves always look so lush, I always wonder if it's something the buns can have!

Ok I've just identified it myself on google as alder? But can't find it on the list as safe or unsafe, does anyone know?

Found info on google again saying it is safe! Does anyone feed it? Always scary giving something for the first time!!
