Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Talk to me about - Staphylococcus aureus

Lots I wont disclose but does anyone have any information on Staphylococcus aureus and its connection with Pasteurella?

Not a lot of in depth information on the Web, or does anyone have a link to a paper on it?

(FWIW this is for someone who is having a horrific time of it at the moment)

Can you be a bit more specific. Do you maen does having one of the bacteria present predispose a Rabbit to infection with the other ? Or is it that you want info on what disease processes Pasteurella and/or Staph A can cause ?

Your post is a bit ambiguous.

Unfortunatley it has to be Jane for legal reasons (or possible legal reasons) I cannot disclose too much information. (I have to be vague, sorry)

Rabbit A.
PTS, PM carried out, tests show pos Past and Staph. Lady is fully aware of past, but no experience pf staph. wanted to know all there is to know about the two, be it connected or not.

Staph is a normal commensal found on the skin so I wouldn't have thought its presence on PM is significant. I am unsure of its importance in the URT. What bacteria is responsible for the Pasteurella?

I agree with Bionic. Staph aureus is s bog standard pathogen that you're highly likely to find on a PM. It would depend on what levels are present as to whether it's an issue. Staph is like strep, it's on and around most living things all the time.
I think pastuerella is usually pasteurella multicoda in rabbits.

I have sourced info direct from my vet, 1 of 6 rabbits came back positive (as before, above normal levels) and 5 all clear.

Thanks all for your help, lady involved is feeling slightly more positive now.
