Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Nebulising help

Elena

So I thought Trinity was open til late afternoon today  after turning up at twenty past realise it shuts at three. Grr.

I don't know what to do now. I have no baytril and saline solution to nebulise with. Is it worth me getting some saline to nebulise? It's a bit difficult to get there tomorrow or Monday. She'll be going to see them on Tues. But I need something for tonight.

I could skip tonight and tomorrow and go down tomorrow afternoon. It'll be yet another 40 min round trip though plus one on tues. Unless I take her tomorrow afternoon but unlikely to see a vet she's seen before.

Edit: also have some F10.

Ok so I'm just gonna do it with the saline I got from the pharmacy (that was an interesting conversation!), after all it's not going to hurt her right? I can only see three options, F10 which I don't know how I'm supposed to sort that to nebulise with, saline or not do it at all.

Am too tired and I need to go to sleep. Had enough today.

It'll be fine to leave it until you can get some more stuff, ive had to do it with Buster more than once

Thanks. I think she really feels the benefit as she always wants to go in so I don't like to leave it. She's come out bouncing around as usual!

Plain saline was great for Benjie & all he's ever needed in a nebuliser.
It's a great help to soften up the thick gunk so it's easier to sneeze out.

You're absolutely right about it doing no harm. Also it doesn't cause bacterial resistance.
IMO it's well worth carrying on with occasional saline nebuliser (if bunny is happy) after the snuffles is under control just to stop the nose blocking up again.

Some folks use plain saline contact lens solution. I make my own up daily, but we need to use sea salt (table salt has silica in it as an anticaking agent;))
