Hi all,
I thought you might like to see the outdoor day area I'm building for Ailise and her future husbun!
Basic plan of raised bed area to be converted to a lovely bunny day home.
The raised bed being excavated. When finished, I had removed about 24" of soil from the entire bed.
Cory pretending to be a rabbit! The frame will keep the whole thing securely on the concrete base, the inner subframe will support the underground "warren" portion. We also added a drainage pipe to clear excess water from the bed.
Sawing the wood for the warren part of the Palace.
The warren is almost finished! The structure on the side is a hay hopper and will have its own door on top that lifts up to drop in hay. The opening for the bunnies to eat the hay is positioned right in front of their litter box and will have wire grids to keep the hay in while still allowing munching. The litter tray is inset into the base to allow maximum headroom. The floor will be covered with lino, the whole interior will be painted with non-toxic paint, edging added, and the exterior sides covered with insulation.
Another shot of the underground warren so far.
Top boards nailed down. Two are doors to allow access to the hay hopper and the warren. The tubes are how the bunnies will get from the run to the warren.
The doors both open.
I added steps under each tube so the angle wouldn't be as steep. Here you can also see the paint, lino and trim in the warren.
The warren.
Framing the "run" portion.
Painted and with doors installed.
Hardware cloth completed and roof support beam added.
Constructing the roof.
Roof installed and painted. Also the floor covering (vinyl) for the "run" portion has been added.
The hutch is almost complete! Just roofing felt, bowtie latches and a last coat of paint to go.
All finished and ready to move in!
Bunnies' eye view through the exit door!
