Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
Erin has food lodged in the hole from the abscess surgery so is back in to have it investigated, possibly under GA to seal it/clean it out thoroughly. She was barely eating because of the shards of hay in the hole.
Poor girl that sounds so painful
I hope things improve for her soon.
Thanks Jane.
Update: I'm not sure if she had a GA, my message said she was okay and there wasn't anything serious going on. She's being kept in until she's eating well. Poor girl managed to keep on troughing with the abscess but seems to be really sensitive to the after-effects of the treatment.
For some reason we've been 'hidden' in Health now I wasn't asking for advice as a more than competent rabbit dentist did the diagnosis and treatment. I've not asked for advice just vibes and support, I really thought that was "Rabbit Chat".
Any Dental work can make things more uncomfortable at first and with an open socket it is understandable that Erin may be struggling.I remember all too well what I went through when I had a 'complicated' molar extraction...............
I hope Erin feels better soon xx
Hope Erin is tooth gap problem is better soon, sounds awful having hay stuck in there. You must be so stressed worrying about some of your poorly buns at the moment.
(((Hugs)))xxx
No reply from any Mod re my query...............
I really hope that Erin will start eating soon so you can have her back at home xx
Thanks. Yeah, quiet baffling as to where to post things. It's confused me as I still wouldn't know where to post and how to fit the criteria :?
Anyhows. Erin still isn't really eating They are trying her on a different painkiller today and continuing with the syringe feeds and no doubt her 'aunty Kathy' will manage a cuddle or two whilst attending to her.
Maybe she has some TMJ pain ?

This can happen after certain types of Dental treatment
I hope the change of analgesia will help
Still only nibbling and needing to be syringe fed
Do you think she might do better at home now ?
Not if I can't get her to eat. I'm at the end of my tether with a few stresses going on and having panic attacks, only sleeping when exhausted etc. Artie really isn't well and I'm having to care for him very intensively. I slept on the floor with him last night so I could get him to eat bits throughout the night to try and kick start his appetite/keep his guts ticking over.
In those circumstances Erin's better off where she is. I don't know why she won't eat but she's not a stressy rabbit and is settled at the vets, so a very rabbit orientated member of staff told me. My heart is breaking for her as I just don't understand, it should have been quite a simple, straightforward procedure, with in theory a good prognosis
