This thread is a great idea, we hardly hear anything about the rescues and sanctuaries on RU anymore

    Hello

We are Honeybunnies, Leicester Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue.
the rescue HQ is in Narborough/Enderby but we have had, and have a few fosterers/team members spread over the county.

We take in unwanted, neglected and abused rabbits and piggies, get them fit and well, neuter and vacs them and find them new homes. Any that cannot be rehomed for health or behavioural problems stay with us. We have a true non put to sleep policy.
We have been involved in some very sad rescue situations and have had animals brought to us by RSPCA inspectors from 4 different counties. We have tried to help other rescues in the past but now are so inundated we don't often get the chance Other rescues have also helped us and working together is the way forward.

At present the team is myself, Ange, Jen, Kate and Colin B, Cathy H and Cathy W, Kirsty and Rich and Carol, but along the way we have had many other people foster for us and we are forever grateful to them We are all unpaid volunteers and I am always touched by how much time and care the team members give to this cause and our furry lodgers
We have great bunny vets at King Richards ( Emily and Paula), but still miss Subo who moved to Family Friends vets in Slough last year
Gamston Vets4Pets is used by us for all guinea pig neuters
We also have a rodentologist on board who has been a godsend to us at times
We are lucky in having some great supporters ( hello Lee and Sian, Julie, Justine and others ) Without whom we couldn't keep going.

And of course always grateful to those who have offered homes to our animals

We hope all people who read this will always choose to rescue
    Jill

I (Tracy) run Rabbit and Guinea Pig Welfare in Rugby. We got involved with rescues when our daughter wanted a pet of her own and we had seen an article in the local paper about a lady running a rescue from her back garden. We got involved with supporting her with fundraisers and helping adopt her guineas. After a couple of years she left to go to Ireland and we moved every last bit of her rescue to our garden in Rugby.

We have now been running from here for just coming up to 13 years. I mainly run it on my own, my partner Shaun helps out with the maintenance side and my three children occasionally help out. I also have a helper that comes in on a Friday night to feed for me.
We take in rabbits and guinea pigs no longer wanted by the general public and are the only rescue in the whole country who routinely neuter every guinea pig that comes through our doors. There is a high demand for our sows and they have been known to be homed from the south cost all the way to Scotland and one pair that went to Dublin!! We have a strict non destroy policy unless on a vets advice. We’ve had animals that have spent many years in our care before finding their forever home.

We try and help out other rescues when we have space and funds.
We are run on the money made from our boarding side, from adoptions, sales of equipment and food. Any donations we get be that money, or otherwise are always gratefully accepted

My partner is self employed and I answer the phone and take bookings for him while dealing with the animals and my two school aged children and one that’s just off to uni. We have recently also become involved with helping a local rescue get pound dogs to safety and have been helping them get organized with fundraising etc.

Where are all the other rescues- well known ones as well as the smaller ones, it may give people a bit more insight into the rescues and sanctuaries around and the various niches they fill.

    Yes this

I was just wondering if this could be made a sticky at all, so that new members can easily find it and read all about the rescues?

I am Elaine who runs the Tameside Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue in Manchester area, I have been doing the rescue for about 13 yrs and take alot of rabbits in from the rspca, which was totally over run this last month as I was asked to help on a (rspca case) where there was 70 rabbits to be removed. I received alot of donations and gifts from lots of people which was really appreciated as this put the rescue well over capacity (110). Lots of these needed lots of treatment and care most are still with me at the moment. I do have a real soft spot for the Giants and have a blind Conti and a chocolate french who is extremly aggressive. I do have a couple in looking for the right home. I try to check and reply to email in the evening. All rabbit leaving are neutered and chipped and vaccinated. I would like to thank Webble who posts all the rabbits on here for me. I use the Tameside Vets in Ashton u Lyne but prices have doubled recently, I have also been to Armac in Bolton with the Case rabbits and they are amazing with rabbits.

What a great thread Its lovely to hear about all of you and the work you do. I also thin it would be a good idea for a sticky which can be constantly added to.

My two dutchies came from you They made the trip from Manchester to Scotland, Elaine was very helpful, we arranged everything via email and also liaised with my in laws who collected and delivered the buns for me. They were neutered, chipped and vaccinated too, the whole service was fantastic and the buns are doing well
Elaine, my in laws use Victoria Vets for the cat, not sure if that is near you but they said prices were good, so might be worth checking out.
