I knew there was a big animal hospital near by and when Pie went down with stasis the first time, I had no idea what was wrong. It was a saturday night, 2nd January and saw the emergency vet. She was fantastic, knew exactly what the problem was and how to treat it and gave me advice on how to prevent it.
Been going there ever since, and if it wasn't for one particular vet there Pie would not be here now. I am very lucky to have the vets I have (even though they are not cheap!

Initially I used one that was closest to me and I liked the fact that they had another surgery so if they couldn't fit me in at one, they could usually fit me in at the other one. I was always impressed with their service too.

Now though, I use the one I work for - very handy indeed and

Thanks everyone. I just telephoned the vets who were recommended and spoke to a receptionist who told me that Myxo and VHD jabs could be given on the same day and that it would only cost 15 each rabbit for both vaccs!!? (which seems very cheap - current vet charges 40 per rabbit for both vaccs)!

Anyway, thought I may drop them an email asking a few questions to try and suss them out (and for them to redeem themselves for their receptionist not knowing basic stuff).

So, what questions would you ask a vet to try and find out if they were rabbit savvy??

Might put this question on a separate thread actually

I have two fantastic rabbit savvy Vets for the two sets of bunnies.

    1. The trio. If I hadn't changed from the local Vet I was using, Totti would be dead . He was being treated for stasis and had been kept in for observation. When I collected him, I was cheerily advised "he's fine, he's eaten a dandelion leaf". He was 6 years old and I knew him well - he was not fine so I switched to the rabbit savvy Vet that the Rescue I was helping out at used. He needed a further 3 weeks of intensive treatment.

    2. The Pretty Boys. The Rescue that they came from uses a rabbit savvy Vet local to me so it made sense to continue with their treatment there.

I would avoid them like the plague having been given that information alone.

two recommendations, and it is the closest. Plus the prices are reasonable and the vet is really really nice and gentle and a good vet.

I met our vet when she had an open day - have never looked back.

She is just such a wonderful person and I trust her 100% with ALL my pets.

Plus it only takes us 10 mins or so to get to her - We are very lucky

    It's just up the road

Got lucky though as 1 of the vets specialises in small animals with a particular interest in rabbits!

She helps out at all our charity events and is always on the end of the phone/e-mail if we need her. She also runs her own 24 hour emergency service and we have been known to visit her in the early hours of the morning with a sick animal

My vets in London, they were just around the corner. Very friendly and helpful. I had them for 10 years.

However, when my chinchilla needed neutering he honestly told me he could not do it so was referred to a chinchilla savvy vets. They were a long way from us.

Now. A top rabbit savvy vet by recommendation from RU.
