Hi there:wave:, a quick hello from Ontario! I noticed most of the members are from the UK, just wondering if there's others who are from Canada?

I recently became a mother of 2 bunny boys, Circle and Equal. Circle, my very first bunny:love:, is a 3 months old little boy. He is a broken black Mini Lop who is really fluffy. Equal is a little bit smaller in both size and age, his is a 2 months old Holland Lop but can't seem to find a way to drop his ears.

I happened to came across this forum from searching about Circle's disease. About two weeks ago he started to eat less and less hay, at first I thought he was just being picky in choosing his food but when he even stopped eating pellets I noticed that he has a swollen jaw. I took him to the vet shortly after and he was diagnosed with abscesses:cry:, which may be with him for a lifetime. I wanna know if any other members have came across such problems too.

If you look down the introductions to binkylover (I think!), she lives in Newfoundland.

I am sure if you post in the health section people will be more than happy to share their similar experiences with you re jaw abcesses.

:wave: Hi hope you enjoy the forum, I'm sure there are some people on here who will be able to share experience/knowledge and tips with you, your little chaps are lovely, they will both need to be neutered if they are to continue to live together, hormones kick in and cause probs otherwise. Thats so sad for such young bunny to have abcesses already the poor little thing. I hope you will be able to sort things now so that he doesn't have a re-occurring problem, it's good that they eat hay. Anyway you've found a brilliant forum for bunnies and other things too, I know there are a few USA members not sure about Canada - looks like you might be stuck with us over in Blighty :lol:

I was planning to get them neutered. But then I found out Circle's abcesses problem, now i have to save up for his surgery:?. I have been doing research about abcesses for the past week, it seems like it is very hard to cure:(. Circle is not eating any hay, he only eats pellets which I softened with warm water. Anyway nice to meet you:D

:? What has caused the abcess then do you think, what did the vet say? - it's such a shame for a little one to have that amount of pain your lucky he is eating at all - from what I have read it will need a general anathestic, you might find that getting him neutered and the abcess treated will work out better than putting him under twice - I'm not sure how invasive the surgery is for an abcess but, if it's in his mouth surely it could be tooth related and therefore will require prompt attention as the contents of the abcess are highly poisonous?

I dont know, the vet said it might be genetic or might got it from other buns. I am glad he still eats pellets, but he started not drinking water:(. I know, but the surgery for abscess itself is already very costly. The vet said there is no guarantee the surgery can cure the abscess, and the abscess is very likely come back, which means Circle might need to do a few surgery for full recovery. I am already having money problem for Circle first surgery, I dont know what to do now.

:( Have you no re-course with the person who sold him to you, I personally don't know a lot about abcesses especially in youngsters but, there are members on here i think who might be able to advise you more, I hope you can maybe at least get a second opinion from a 'rabbit specialist' vet, I know the abcesses because of the contents are very difficult to drain as such as the consistency is often thick and similar to toothpaste, however depending on the stage of advancement sometime antibiotics and curing the dental problems can help - he is only a baby so i do hope you can find a way to save him, is he not insured?

I got him from a local pet store, my vet said they can help me to talk to the pet store about Circle's case for refund, but thats not what i want, giving Circle back to the pet store wont do him any good. My frd had a similar case, she give her bun back to the pet store but they didnt take good care of her bun. They didnt bring her bun to the vet, only put the bun in a little cage inside the back of the store. My vet have helped me contact a rabbit specialist vet, they told me to bring Circle over to do the surgery. But still the surgery cost is to high for me. I have contacted a lot of rabbit rescue organization in Canada about my case and see if they can give me a hand. But they all rejected me, and they said they only give love to the rabbit that is in they care. I am still working on finding a organization that is kind enough to help my little Circle.
 
Your rabbits are gorgeous!! :love::love: I'm really glad to hear you aren't taking him back to the pet shop :) I hope you can find some help, have you been in touch with the House Rabbit Society? They may be able to point you in the right direction xx
