Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

When breeding rabbits

what is a safe time period between litters for a doe??

This is not for me or anything like that so please dont worry!!

What have you done?

I have to say that it depends on the doe, to be honest. I don't think more than three is year is really ok, although I have come across some does who are only happy with litters (but am fully aware that if they were spayed it would be different, but when they are breeder bunnies that is not a possibility).

I went on Pips breeders website (I have done this a few times kind of just keeping an eye if that makes sense), and noticed that does that I know had litters only weeks before Pip was born have now have kits in nests again. She also has 4 new rabbits to breed from and says she she some young adults for sale plus some "rescue rabbits available".

I just feel dissapointed that she led me along the garden path, I thought her rabbits were loving pets and she bred for a hobby!!

:( As hard as it sounds, try not to dwell on it too much, although I know that's far easier than it sounds.

Just think how lucky Pip is.

we got Bisc before we really knew about rescues etc. When we had our home check for Badger I commented that we had got Bix as an ex-breeding doe, and we regretted not going to a rescue.

The rescue pointed out that she would likely have ended up in a rescue anyway as she no longer had a use so all we had done was cut out their involvement and saved them time, money and trouble.

Yeah never thought about it like that before! I had already been offered pips mum when I took Pip, but I didnt feel like I could at the time and part of me wished I could have cos she has gone to another "home" now!

Just out of curiousity did you bond Biscuit and Badger or did the rescue??
