  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
I have a friend who has a doe she has developed a wart like spot on her nose and crust private parts she is eating and drinking and acting like a normal bunnie she had her to the vets who said she had rabbit pox is this so she gave her baytril but obviously she is worried as she is a much loved doe

Firstly, get your friend and your friends bun to a new vet as rabbit pox rarely exists outside of laboratory rabbits. Sounds like syphilis to me but i'd be seriously considering a second opinion.

If you read the links I posted you will see that it can be transmitted from Doe to Kits at Birth aswell as from mating.

Yes, the Buck is very likely to be effected, he may be asymptomatic though. If he's a stud Buck he will infect every Doe he is put to and the Doe is likely to infect every litter she kindles........................

ALL potentially infected Rabbits need treatment and should not be used for Breeding.

The new owners of any Rabbits sold on from a mating involving the Buck should be notified of the possibility of a flare up of Treponematosis.
